The 80-20 Rule

We Focus on the 20%

The 80-20 rule says that 20% of the work of any project will lead to 80% of the desired outcome. 20% of your web pages delivers 80% of your views. 20% of your advertising delivers 80% of your return.

The truth about digital marketing consultants is that they make most of their money on the other 80% of a project that delivers 20% of the value.  Makes sense. The more work they do, the more the can charge clients.

We think it makes more sense for local business for us to do a great job on the 20%. That approach is more practical, more affordable, and frankly, a smarter way for us to help.

Here's an example:

You've likely heard of search engine optimization, the practice of making a site more easily found by search engines so that the site shows up in search engine results pages.

But here's the scary and decidedly daunting fact about optimizing a website for search engines:

Websites are not optimized. Web pages are.

If you have a website comprised of 50 or 60 pages, then that's the number of optimization projects you have. Not one site. 50 or 60 pages.

We think it makes more sense, then, to focus on those smaller number of pages that could better tap into web searches for more qualified traffic. So, we'd want to help you with the 10 pages of your site with the highest web traffic potential.  Let's focus on the 20%.
